Meditation

Ady GriffithsMeditation can help us to develop greater awareness in our lives. With greater awareness we can begin to free ourselves from limiting habitual reactions and encourage a more creative life. As well as drop-in classes we offer a range of Meditation and Buddhism Courses, courses for coping with depression, stress and anxiety and also a new course on living well with pain and illness.

See the Programme page to see what's coming up in the next months.

Approaches to Meditation

Mindfulness Practices include mindfulness of posture and of the body, walking meditation and the four stage ‘Mindfulness of Breathing’ practice. These can contribute to a fuller awareness of ourselves and to calm, clear states of mind.

Loving Kindness The Metta Bhavana (cultivating loving kindness) is a practice based on awareness of our emotions.
It encourages the arising of a positive intention that can transform our response to ourselves and towards others.
.
‘Just Sitting’ is a receptive practice that combines with both of the above approaches.

Awareness of actions and their consequences in our daily lives (ethics) supports the practice of meditation.
