Learn meditation in Brighton
You can learn to meditate at the Brighton Buddhist
Centre. The Brighton Buddhist Centre is part of the Triratna Buddhist
Community. It is open to the public on weekdays from 12.30 to 2.30pm and
offers courses and classes in meditation, Buddhism and Yoga for all levels
of experience.
The Buddhist Centre is affiliated to the Triratna Buddhist Order (formerly
the FWBO) which was founded in 1967 by Urgyen Sangharakshita.

We are one of over 80 Centres
worldwide, directed by members of the Triratna Buddhist Order and linked
by a common approach to make Buddhism and meditation accessible in the
modern world. We
welcome people of all ages, cultures and heritages.
The
Brighton Buddhist Centre (Triratna Buddhist Community - Brighton) has
been a registered charity (charity no. 273682) since 1976 and has taught
meditation and Buddhism to many thousands of local people from Brighton
and Sussex over this time.
There are disabled facilities and wheelchair
access to the whole building.

Approaches to Meditation
Mindfulness Practices include mindfulness of posture
and of the
body, walking meditation and the four stage ‘Mindfulness of Breathing’
practice. These can contribute to a fuller awareness of ourselves and
to calm, clear states of mind
Loving Kindness The Metta Bhavana (cultivating loving
kindness) is a practice based on awareness of our emotions. It encourages
the arising of a positive intention that can transform our response to
ourselves and towards others.
‘Just Sitting’ is a receptive practice that
combines with both of the
above approaches.
Awareness of actions and their consequences in our daily lives (ethics)
supports the practice of meditation.
Buddhism
We aim to communicate the principles of Ethics, Meditation and
Wisdom taught by the Buddha. Our approach to Buddhism draws
widely on all relevant teachings of historical Buddhism. The founder
of the Triratna Buddhist Order (TBO), Urgyen Sangharakshita, has developed
an approach to Buddhism based on these principles that recognizes the
influence of the western cultural tradition.
Yoga and Tai-Chi
Yoga and Tai-Chi are traditional spiritual practices with a focus on the
body. Awareness of the body and attention to its health and well-being
is complementary to a meditation practice.
New Shrine Room
Our new Small Shrine Room is available for individual
meditation practice during reception hours: 12.30 - 2.30pm Monday to Friday.
